  • Eraser

How to Draw Cartoon Train

Drawing a cartoon train is really easy. As most lines can be drawn using a scale, there is more uniformity and neatness. For a beginner, this is one of the easiest drawings they can start with. We are drawing a cargo/ goods train. You can easily convert this to a passenger train by following the tip provided at the end of this how to draw cartoon train tutorial.

Step 1: Draw the engine

The first and the most important step is to draw the engine. On the lower end of the paper, draw two parallel lines at a distance from each other. Now draw two more lines, making it look like a rectangle. On the lower line, draw three circles of different sizes. You can also draw same-sized circles. These are the wheels. Inside each circle, draw one more circle. Towards the left of the rectangle, draw a semi-circle. Below this, draw a triangle. This triangle joins the semi-circle and the wheel. Inside this triangle, draw two slant lines. Our base of the engine is ready.

Now we will draw the drivers/ pilots seating car. Over the rectangle drawn earlier, draw a square. Let the right end of this align with the rectangle. Above the square, draw a thin rectangle. Inside the square, draw two smaller squares. These are the windows. Now we will draw the chimney for the steam to get out. This is an old fashioned steam train. Draw a tall thin rectangle towards the left of the square drawn. Above this, draw a funnel. This is your chimney. Draw three circles of different sizes. This looks like steam coming out of the chimney. Your engine is now ready.

You may draw freehand lines as well. Using a scale or ruler will help you get better edges but will also increase the time spent on drawing. You may choose to draw a train however you want to.

Step 2: Draw the cargo car

To draw the cargo carriers, we will first draw a rectangle. This should be of the same size as that of the rectangle drawn in the engine. Make sure to leave a little space between the engine and the car. Under the car, draw wheels similarly as drawn for the engine. Now we will connect the engine and the car. For this, draw two small lines close to each other connecting the engine to the car.

Step 3: Draw the other cars

Similar to the first car drawn, draw two more cars. Leave equal distance between each car. Connect the cars. Now your train drawing is ready. Refer to the image below to understand how your final drawing needs to look. You can use a pencil to shade the diagram. You can also use colors to fill in. Use your creativity and make your train colourful.

Tip: If you want to draw a passenger train, you have to draw a bigger car. Instead of drawing a rectangle of the size of the one in the engine, your rectangle should be larger, probably up till the square of the engine.

How to Draw Bullet Train/ Electric Train

Bullet trains and electric trains are one of the most advanced types of trains. You can see these in most developed and developing countries. It is very fascinating as well. Looking at the train, it might seem very difficult to draw this. But in fact, it is very easy. Just follow these simple steps and draw a bullet train/ electric train now.

Step 1: Outline the body

Across your sheet, draw two parallel lines. You must know that electric trains, bullet trains do not have a separate engine. The engine is in the first car itself. Therefore, we will draw the first car. Towards the left of the lines draw, we will draw a curve to connect them. This is the engine/ room from there the driver/ pilot runs the train. Now on the upper end of of the curve, we will draw a window. This is from where the driver/ pilot sees the path ahead. For the window, draw a square. Draw two more square inside. Align one side of the square to the previous one.

Under this, draw three lines. Below this, draw two slant lines towards the bottom line. Now we will draw the wheels. Draw a thin rectangle on the bottom. Inside, draw three circle. Draw one smaller circle inside each. These are the wheels. Join the wheels using a line. This is the axel that helps move the wheel. Our outline of the train is ready now.

Step 2: Draw windows

Now we will draw the windows all over the train. First, we will extend the lines drawn earlier below the engine  window. Extend the lines till the end of the car. Above this, draw three lines. Towards the left, draw a traingle. Inside this triangle, draw another traingle. Between the lines, we will draw horizontal lines. These are the windows for the passengers. Now above the train, we will draw a cable. Draw two slanting lines in the opposite direction. Now draw two more lines on any one side. Above this, we will draw a thin rectangle.
